History

Camco is an international company formed in 1989 with a mission "to disseminate energy services and technologies that provide a positive benefit for future generations", specializing in energy assessment and energy policy, climate change planning, modeling, product development, as well as carbon asset generation and commercialization. Camco is a pioneering business with an outstanding track record in creating value in the sustainable energy and low carbon markets. Camco works closely with major companies, institutions and organizations worldwide, establishing partnerships to turn our clients’ climate change liabilities into economic, social and environmental assets. Camco comprises more than 200 staff in 12 countries. We have offices throughout the UK, in the EU, North America, China, Russia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa. We work in North America, Latin America, the European Union, Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and the Former Soviet Union (FSU), East and South Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and extensively in Sub-Saharan Africa. Camco has also established strong links with professional, scientific and academic institutions working in climate change, energy and energy-related areas and the company frequently draws on other experts for specific technical expertise.In AfricaCamco has worked on the African continent for over 21 years, with the company founders collaborating in the solar and wind sectors in Southern and Eastern Africa in the mid-1980s. Since that time, we have set up regional offices in Johannesburg, Dar-es-Salaam and Nairobi. Camco has extensive experience throughout sub-Saharan Africa, including Ethiopia, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Madagascar, the Seychelles, the Comoros, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, the DRC, Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria, Somalia, Eritrea, Cameroun, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Camco has supported the development of renewable energy projects throughout Africa, from Ethiopia to South Africa, in sectors as varied as biomass for electricity (e.g., wood, sugar bagasse, other crop wastes, etc.), solar photovoltaics (PV, both grid-connected and non-grid-connected), small hydropower and wind. Camco has also acted as a key player in the climate change and sustainable energy arena in the region, having supported the development of energy and climate change policies, strategies and programmes for national and local governments, including South Africa, Kenya, Zambia and Swaziland, working with partners such as regulators, and departments of energy and environment to establish the policy frameworks to support sustainable energy investment and development. We have worked with the private sector, public sector and communities on a range of climate change related projects, from mitigation through to adaptation, including the development of both CDM and VER projects.
